The Boulder Psychotherapy Institute (BP)has been training and supervising mental health professionals and graduate students in Applied Existential Psychotherapy (AEP) since 1989. Dr. Betty Cannon is the founder of AEP and the president of BPI. She is a member of the editorial boards of three international journals and an
internationally know author and presenter. Her book on Sartre and Psychoanalysis is considered a classic in existential psychology. AEP interlaces the insights of existential philosophy and contemporary psychoanalysis with interventions inspired by Gestalt therapy and other experiential approaches. It is a dynamic here-and-now therapy that also takes into account how the past impacts the present. AEP works deeply with the body and process as well as verbal material and content. Dr. Cannon has been practicing psychotherapy and training, supervising, and mentoring therapists in Boulder for over forty years. She is a long-time member of the CAP Advisory Board. She and her colleague Robyn Chauvin have recently introduced a class in Applied Existential Coaching into the BPI Curriculum.

Life Coaching/Counseling related to internal v.s. external issues
Long Business Description
I use a metaphysical approach to depression and self-hatred – helping to create the conditions in which change occurs rather than perusing the change itself. I also support the client in embracing the feelings they have been trying to resolve with logic and achievement and allow these feelings to lead them back to early trauma and self-defeating beliefs. This is a non-directive approach that allows the client to discover who they uniquely are as opposed to what they think they would like to become. Change is lasting and often dramatic - occurring within moments, weeks, and months as opposed to years.
